Orthopedic surgeon Dr. Brian Kurcz, MD, of Orthopedics & Sports Medicine BayCare Clinic - Manitowoc, has earned Board Certification from the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery (ABOS).

To earn this Board Certification from the ABOS, Dr. Kurcz successfully completed a five-year residency program in orthopedic surgery which was accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education. He then passed the rigorous ABOS Part I Examination, a comprehensive examination encompassing all facets of the field of orthopedic surgery.

Two years later, Dr. Kurcz underwent an extensive credentialing process and the ABOS Part II Oral Examination. This evaluation required submission of a detailed case list of surgeries performed over a six-month period. From this list, experienced surgeons selected 12 cases for in-depth review during the oral exam. This assessment measured specific skills including data gathering and interpretive skills, diagnostic skills, treatment expertise, technical skills, patient outcomes, and applied orthopedic and medical knowledge.

After passing both the written and oral examinations, Dr. Kurcz is now Board Certified in orthopedic surgery, also known as a diplomate of the ABOS. This certification lasts for 10 years. To maintain certification, Dr. Kurcz must pass a knowledge assessment, receive positive reviews from peers, have a selected period of surgical cases evaluated, and participate in continuing medical education. We are grateful for Dr. Kurcz's ongoing commitment to advancing his expertise and delivering exceptional care to every patient.
