Aurora BayCare Medical Center is joining forces to host the YWCA TechGYRLS event for all girls ages 8 to 18 on Tuesday, July 29.
This hands-on adventure, which takes place from 1:30 to 3:30 PM, is all about STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math). The program aims to empower young girls—especially those from underrepresented communities—to dive into exciting careers in these fields.
At the event, gynecologic oncologist Dr. Elizabeth Dickson Michelson and other BayCare Clinic providers and staff will offer various hands-on demonstrations and giveaways for participants.
“This program offers us a chance to inspire the next generation of girls and young women in science, math, technology and the arts,” said Dr. Dickson Michelson. “We’re grateful to support these students in our community and to help spark an interest that can lead to successful career pathways.”
The YWCA teams up with local organizations and businesses to create highly engaging field visits led by successful women in STEAM-related industries. Each visit is packed with hands-on learning opportunities. This free event features suture stations, math and art activities, snacks and more.
Engaging in STEAM subjects and activities is particularly valuable for girls, as studies show they begin to lose confidence in their skills and abilities as early as age eight. STEAM subjects also help build vital problem-solving skills that students need as they advance their education and enter careers.
“Seeing women working successfully in STEAM-related fields—and enjoying what they do—can be highly empowering for girls,” Dr. Dickson Michelson said. “We’re proud to be a part of this valuable program.”
Departments participating in the program include Aurora BayCare Gynecologic Oncology, Aurora BayCare Sports Medicine, BayCare Clinic Emergency Physicians, BayCare Clinic Orthopedics & Sports Medicine, Oral Surgery & Implant Specialists BayCare Clinic, Plastic Surgery & Skin Specialists by BayCare Clinic, and plastic surgery product maker Stryker.
All girls ages 8 to 18 are invited to attend this free program. Students ages 8 to 15 need to be accompanied by an adult. The event is at Aurora BayCare Medical Center, 1160 Kepler Dr., 2nd floor, Green Bay. Please RSVP by emailing Jessica.Winkel@baycareclinic.com with your name, your child’s name, and child’s age.
