Returning to the Upper Midwest is both a professional and personal homecoming. Raised first in a farming community in southwest Minnesota and later in the suburbs of Minneapolis, Dr. Charboneau developed an appreciation for the values that define the region—hard work, integrity, and a strong sense of community. As he joins BayCare Clinic in Green Bay, Wisconsin, Dr. Charboneau is excited to care for patients and families throughout northeastern Wisconsin while building lasting connections in the community.
Dr. Charboneau specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of a wide range of colorectal conditions, including colorectal cancer, pelvic floor disorders, diverticular disease, inflammatory bowel disease, and benign anorectal conditions. He has particular expertise in robotic and minimally invasive surgical techniques, while maintaining a broad practice that encompasses the full spectrum of colon and rectal surgery. He believes that exceptional care begins with listening to patients, understanding their goals, and working together to develop individualized treatment plans.
One of the aspects of BayCare Clinic that most attracted Dr. Charboneau is its strong multidisciplinary approach to patient care. He values the opportunity to work alongside specialists across multiple disciplines to provide seamless, coordinated treatment for patients with both routine and complex colorectal conditions. This team-based model allows patients to benefit from a breadth of expertise while receiving care close to home in northeastern Wisconsin.
He earned his medical degree from the University of Minnesota before completing his general surgery residency at Virginia Mason Medical Center in Seattle, Washington. He then completed fellowship training in Colon and Rectal Surgery at the University of Louisville, where he gained advanced experience in the treatment of both common and complex colorectal diseases.
Throughout his training, Dr. Charboneau remained actively involved in research spanning both general and colorectal surgery. His work has included basic science investigations, surgical outcomes research, healthcare cost analyses, and quality improvement initiatives aimed at advancing patient care and improving surgical outcomes.
Dr. Charboneau and his wife are excited to be raising their young son in the Upper Midwest and becoming part of the Green Bay community. Outside of medicine, he enjoys spending time with family and taking advantage of the region's outdoor opportunities through fishing, camping, golfing, and hunting. He looks forward to serving patients throughout northeastern Wisconsin and helping them achieve better health through compassionate, evidence-based colorectal care.
